Are You a Real Christian? Do You Have an Interest in God? - by C. Matthew McMahon
Articles on the Christian Walk, Systematic Theology and Practical TheologyToday, many Christians are turning back to the puritans to, “walk in the old paths,” of God’s word, and to continue to proclaim old truth that glorifies Jesus Christ. There is no new theology. In our electronic age, more and more people are looking to add electronic books (ePubs, mobi and PDF formats) to their library – books from the Reformers and Puritans – in order to become a “digital puritan” themselves. Take a moment to visit Puritan Publications (click the banner below) to find the biggest selection of rare puritan works updated in modern English in both print form and in multiple electronic forms. There are new books published every month. All proceeds go to support A Puritan’s Mind.

Workbooks Like No Other
There are no other workbooks like these anywhere that will help you work through the best biblical theology.
“I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life,” (1 John 5:13).
“He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad,” (Matt. 12:30).
Are you a Non-Christian? Sometimes this can be a difficult question to work through. Often, sanguine people would like to think of themselves as Christians – maybe they equate Christian with being moral? People often like to categorized themselves as moral, or at least more moral than the next guy. But the “I’m more moral than the next guy” theology never works. You might think you are more moral than Harry next door, but Harry next door might be a secret serial killer who thinks he is more moral than Stalin. And Stalin might think he was more moral than Hitler. And Hitler might think he is more moral than Judas. You get the picture.
Though people are not moral in the way God prescribes, they still, at some level, think they are. I think at least most people would believe that. Sure, there are the occasional Atheists and Agnostics who hate Jesus Christ and simply use such philosophical systems to hide their sin, but for the most part, people would like to think of themselves as basically good.
But I didn’t ask you if you thought you were basically good, rather, I brought you into a head-on encounter with Jesus Christ. Are you a Christian? Now I suppose here people have all sorts of ideas about what a “Christian” may be. But I didn’t ask you for all sorts of opinions. When I ask you if you are a Christian, I am asking this in light of the teachings of Jesus Christ Himself. You may say, “Well I am unsure of the teachings of Jesus Christ.” Well then, you have answered my question! To disregard who Jesus Christ is, and what He taught, is to certainly place yourself in opposition to everything He is and everything He taught. Being a Non-Christian means you are either indifferent to the things of Jesus Christ, or are in opposition to Him. There is no gray area here. In reality, Jesus Christ said that anyone who was either indifferent to Him or opposed to Him is essentially in the same boat. They are lost. They are lost in a world of sin in which they believe themselves to be just fine.
“What is the meaning of Life?” “Why are we here?” People have been asking questions like that for quite a long time. But what’s the answer? Is the answer to the meaning of life to make lots of money? Look at Robin Williams, or Elvis, or Michael Jackson, or a myriad of other rich, but disheartened people who died in depression through drugs.
Is the answer to get married and have a family? Look at the current divorce rate. Is it to be successful in a career? Look how many people are unemployed, or work in their jobs like an addict. Is it to acquire nice things? Life may be filled with all of these things, even being rich like Abraham, Job or Solomon. But is all that the end-all reason for our existence? No, not even close.
“That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 15:6
The chief end of man is to glorify God, and enjoy Him forever. That is why we were created–to glorify God. But there is a problem–people do not want to glorify God because they love themselves more than they love God. They are involved in self-love rather than having an interest in Jesus Christ.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
“For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God.” 2 Timothy 3:3-4.
God’s wrath is kindled against all those who fall short of His glory, and He will judge them for being sinners.
“The foolish shall not stand in Thy sight; Thou hatest all workers of iniquity.” Psalm 5:5.
If non-Christians are sinners who have God’s anger kindled against them, how are they to be saved from His wrath–how can they be free from being judged and condemned to hell for their wicked disposition?
Jesus Christ said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” John 5:24
Only through Jesus Christ may a man glorify God and escape the wrath of God.
“Even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.” 1 Thessalonians 1:10
“Neither is there salvation in any other; for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
Time is running out for you. Every day brings you one step closer to the judgment of God. Your next breath could be at God’s judgment seat.
Is this something scary? Yes. It is, really, beyond scary.
Is being judged for everything you have ever thought, ever said, ever done something scary, shameful and terrible? It should be.
